Kraków has received perhaps the most iconic Warsaw tram, the 13N series, popularly known as ‘parówka.’ [the sausage - TVP World]

“This is the second time we are exchanging historic trams with Kraków during the summer. After last year’s experience, we decided to continue the cooperation. This time, we are exchanging more capacious vehicles. The GT6 tram number 187 has arrived in Warsaw,” said Maciej Dutkiewicz the spokesman for Warsaw Trams.

The vehicle is 61 years old and originates from Nuremberg. In the 1990s, Kraków purchased 44 such trams second-hand. They first arrived in the capital of Małopolskie province in 1994. “The tram is unusual for Warsaw because, unlike other cities in Poland, we never bought second-hand German trams, which were very popular in the 1990s,” Dutkiewicz emphasized.

The tram was manufactured in 1963. It is preserved in its original state, with authentic equipment and paint from Germany - beige with green stripes.

It bears the coats of arms of Kraków and Nuremberg. The paint scheme is very typical for German cities and unusual for Kraków, which has painted its trams blue since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The tram also features characteristic wooden plywood seats.

“In Warsaw, we are now starting training for drivers, and technical staff should also learn to operate this tram. During the summer, the tram will run on a historic line,” Dutkiewicz said.

This year, Kraków chose one of the most iconic Warsaw trams. The 13N series tram number 503 has gone to Krakow. “It is the first Warsaw ‘sausage’ that we restored to its early operational appearance,” noted the spokesman for Warsaw Trams.
