Showing the wider geographical region, the map featured Ukraine in the center and Poland on the left. However, Russia, on the right, was also labeled as Poland.
Social media users quickly sprang into action with some joking that the territorial change had happened as a result of President Andrzej Duda’s recent visit to China.
Attracting a raft of comments, one user quipped: “The Polish Volunteer Corps, in cooperation with the Freedom of Russia Legion, have done a good job it would seem.” Others joked: “long live the Polish-Chinese border”.
The blunder even drew comment from Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Writing on X, Radosław Sikorski simply wrote: “I categorically deny this”.
The gaffe came one day after the anniversary of Battle of Kłuszyn in 1610, a clash that saw vastly outnumbered Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth forces score a decisive victory over the imperial Russian army. Regarded as one of Poland’s finest military moments, the triumph opened the road to Moscow which fell soon after.
The timing was not lost on users, with several Poles referencing the battle. “Damn,” wrote one, “Poland’s conquered Russia again.”
