Paweł Olszewski said that without the vigilance of Polish security services, the incident could have sparked significant unrest. The attack occurred at the start of the match, making the online broadcast on TVP’s website temporarily unavailable.

TVP later confirmed that their servers had been compromised by hackers.

“The attack was swiftly repelled,” Olszewski said. “Had our services not been alert, there could have been real unrest, as everyone was eagerly anticipating the Euro and this match.”

The official stated that all evidence points to the Russian Federation. Addressing concerns about it being launched from within Poland, he said that “it doesn’t matter where the attack originated from. There are no borders in cyberspace—anyone can be vulnerable to an attack.”

He also referenced a recent incident at the end of May, where a false dispatch about an alleged partial mobilization in Poland was published following an attack on the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

This attack exploited the account of an employee lacking two-factor authentication.

Olszewski noted an increase in cyberattacks linked to Russia and Belarus, describing them as part of a hybrid warfare strategy. He mentioned that specialists have gathered evidence showing that Polish servers were used for mass querying, likely orchestrated by Russian services.
