He made these remarks during a joint conference with David Lammy, the new British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, who visited Poland on Sunday.

Sikorski thanked his British counterpart for choosing Poland as part of his inaugural trip as foreign minister, highlighting that this indicates that the bonds between the two countries remain strong, regardless of the leadership in either country. He also extended congratulations to the Labour Party on its recent electoral success.

“Our countries share the opinion on many challenges to global security, and importantly, the necessity of continuous support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression,” Sikorski said in Chobielin, a village in north-central Poland. He expressed hope that the new U.K. government would enhance Polish-British cooperation across all formats.

“I hope that the United Kingdom will once again approach Europe and come even closer to Poland. I always emphasize that although the U.K. is an island, it is a European island,” added the Polish FM.
