Poland goes on 10 billion złotys spending spree after first funds unfrozen by EU Poland has already spent nearly 10 billion złotys of funds released by the EU since the new coalition government took power in December.

Poland has already spent nearly 10 billion złotys of funds released by the EU since the new coalition government took power in December.

The money was unfrozen by Brussels after the government took steps to reverse the rule-of-law violations made by the country’s previous leadership, the Law and Justice (PiS) party.

Responding positively to these changes, the EU quickly made the first payments that had been earmarked for Poland’s pandemic National Recovery Plan (KPO). The Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, took to X to confirm the figure: “In total, we have invested almost 10 billion złotys [2.35 billion euro],” she wrote.

Under the KPO, Poland will receive 59.8 billion euro (255 billion złotys) including 25.27 billion euro (108 billion złotys) in grants and 34.54 billion euro (147 billion złotys) in preferential loans. The money will be spent on areas that the EU has prioritized such as climate (46.6%), digital transition (21.3%), and social reforms (22.3%).
