Polish PM brings in trusted associates to run key ministries Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, has brought in trusted associates to run the country’s interior and state asset ministries as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced on Friday.

Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, has brought in trusted associates to run the country’s interior and state asset ministries as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced on Friday.

The announcement comes amid preparations for the European Parliament elections, with some ministers leaving their posts in order to become candidates in the June 9 vote.

Tomasz Siemoniak will take over from Marcin Kierwiński as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in the most significant change to the cabinet.

Jakub Jaworowski will step into the role of Minister of State Assets while Hanna Wróblewska will take charge as Minister of Culture, and Krzysztof Paszyk is to head the Ministry of Development and Technology.

The reshuffle comes as the first change to the cabinet since the government took office in December last year. All the new ministers are either long-trusted associates of Tusk or specialists in their field.

“The departing ministers have completed their tasks,” said Tusk, presenting the changes in the government.

Despite the formal confirmation of the changes being slated for Monday, when President Andrzej Duda is set to confirm them, Tusk said that the newly appointed ministers would start work promptly.
Who are the new ministers?

Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration

Tomasz Siemoniak has strong links to Tusk. Over the years, he has held various positions in local governments as well as in the central government. He served as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration (2007-2011), Minister of Defense (2011-2015), and was Poland’s deputy Prime Minister (2014-2015) during the Civic Platform 2007-2015 Civic Platform government. Tusk headed the government from 2007 to 2014.

Minister of State Assets

Jakub Jaworowski became the Undersecretary of State in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery in March 2014. Simultaneously, he held the position of Secretary of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister and the Plenipotentiary of the Prime Minister for Coordination of Regulatory Impact Assessment. In January 2015, he was appointed the Secretary of State. Later, Jaworowski started working as a consultant and expert in public policy at the Boston Consulting Group, moving to Dubai in August 2017.

Minister of Culture

Hanna Wróblewska is a member of the Program Council of the Copernicus Science Centre and the Museum of Art in Łódź. She also served as the director of Zachęta, the National Gallery of Art, between 2010 and 2021.

Minister of Development and Technology

Krzysztof Paszyk, a politician, lawyer, and local government official, served as the chairman of the Wielkopolskie Provincial Council from 2014 to 2015. Since 2023, he has been the chairman of the Parliamentary Club of the Polish People’s Party—Third Way.
