Poland has recently ordered modern military equipment from South Korea, including Chunmoo rocket artillery units, K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, and FA-50 combat trainer aircraft, in reaction to increased threats from Moscow after Russia invaded Ukraine.
On Monday, according to the MoD’s statement posted on its website, the Polish delegation, led by Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda, includes representatives of the National Security Bureau, the Ministry of State Assets, and the national arms producer Polish Armaments Group.
On Monday, the delegation held a meeting with representatives of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
“The talks concerned the implementation and financing of contracts concluded and planned with the Korean partner with a view to
modernizing the Polish Armed Forces, establishing service and repair capabilities, transferring technology, and moving the production of acquired military equipment to Poland,” MoD’s statement read.
A few days ago, Poland’s Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz
reiterated Poland’s intention to manufacture a Polish version of the K2s, the main battle tanks Poland has purchased from South Korea, in the western city of Poznań.
The delegation also visited the Kia plant in the southwestern city of Gwangju to take part in the presentation of the Kia Light Tactical Vehicle (KLTV), MoD reported.
During the five-day visit, the Polish delegation is scheduled to meet with the South Korean defense minister, the head of the DAPA, the head of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), and representatives of selected institutions of the Korean Ministry of National Defense and military units.
