A FAB-250 demolition bomb was found near the village of Bezymieno, less than a kilometer from the border with Ukraine, on Thursday morning, and more than 140 residents of the village were evacuated.

On the same day, an FAB-500 bomb was found in the village of Nechayevka, also in the Belgorod region. In this case, civilians were not evacuated, ASTRA reported, citing its own sources.

Also on Thursday, a similar find was made between the villages of Bessonovka and Vesolaya Lopan, near Belgorod. This involved a KAB-1500 guided bomb with an explosive force similar to that of 1.5 tons of TNT, independent journalists reported.

Since 2024, there have been regular reports of mistaken aerial bomb drops and missed rocket fire from Russia’s regions bordering Ukraine, as well as from Ukrainian territories occupied by the Kremlin.

For example, in January ASTRA reported on the evacuation of 150 residents of the village of Streleckoye near Belgorod, where a FAB-250 bomb was found. That same month, two Russian Kalibr cruise missiles, believed to have been fired toward Ukraine, fell in somewhere in the Krasnodar region.

Russian air strikes intensify

On Friday Russian missile and drone attacks hit thermal and hydropower plants in central and western Ukraine, power grid operator Ukrenergo has said, in the latest barrage targeting the country’s already damaged power infrastructure.

Earlier, on March 22 over a million Ukrainians were left without electricity following a massive attack on Ukrainian energy facilities.
