Zelenskyy said the plan being worked on would build on the conclusions of the Peace Summit held in Switzerland earlier in June and that detailed plans are currently being drawn up covering energy and food security as well as the exchange of prisoners for kidnapped Ukrainian children.

“It is very important for us to show a plan to end the war that will be supported by the majority of the world. This is the diplomatic path we are working on,” Zelenskyy said adding that it was Ukraine that would decide when to enter peace talks with Russia.

“Of course, Ukraine will decide,” he said. “But if everything depended only on Ukraine, there would be no war […]. The diplomatic path chosen by Ukraine is our initiative because we are a victim in this war,” Zelensky said, speaking on his country’s Constitution Day.

More than 90 countries attended the two-day Peace Summit in Bürgenstock on June 15–16, the results of which will be forwarded to Moscow. Most of the states in attendance agreed to the final communiqué that specified the “territorial integrity” of Ukraine must be respected.

Zelenskyy tempered his talk of peace, however, saying the production of artillery, drones, and electronic warfare equipment would be increased as “we must be strong on the battlefield."

"And it's not because someone wants to fight,” he continued. “We didn't want to from the very beginning […]. We just want peace. But we have to be strong […] because Russia understands nothing but strength, and respects no one but only those who are strong.”
