The arrest came after he was found in possession of falsified documents. According to Major Mirosława Aleksandrowicz, spokeswoman for the Border Guard in Warmińsko-Mazurskie province, the incident occurred in the early hours of July 1 at the Grzechotki border crossing.

The individual, driving a Volkswagen with Dutch license plates, claimed he mistakenly arrived at the Polish-Russian border due to navigation directions. His journey originated from the Netherlands, with plans to continue onward to Helsinki via Lithuania.

Upon inspecting the traveler's documentation, Border Guard officers discovered discrepancies. The personal identification card presented by the suspect was flagged in databases as lost in 2013. Similarly, a Spanish passport in his possession was also reported lost in the same year. Suspicions were further heightened by a questionable driving license.

Authorities subsequently confirmed that all documents were counterfeit. Furthermore, it was established that the individual, initially claiming to be a 53-year-old Spaniard, was in fact a 39-year-old Colombian. Spanish authorities had been pursuing him since 2011 on charges related to arms trafficking, ammunition smuggling, explosives, and kidnapping.

The suspect denied allegations of document forgery but refused voluntary surrender to criminal liability. He has been remanded in custody for a period of three months, pending further investigation.

The case is currently being handled by officials from the Grzechotki Border Guard Station.
