Poland’s Ministry of National Defense signed a deal in 2022 to buy 48 Korean-made multi-role FA-50s, one of which visitors to the show could see in flight on Saturday. Thousands of locals and tourists turned out to Suwałki airport to see around 40 various types of aircraft. Also on the bill were the Orlen Group Żelazny aerobatics team, stunt parachutists, and an acrobat suspended under a hot-air balloon.
Aeronautical equipment was on show by the Police, Fire Service, Border Guard, and the 14th Suwałki Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment.
Later in the day a night show was planned, to be accompanied by fireworks displays.
Prior to the start of the show proper a special ceremony was held to officially rename the airport, which has been modernized at a cost of 27 million złoty (6.26 million euro), after Polish flying ace General Witold Urbanowicz. Urbanowicz commanded the RAF’s legendary No.303 "Tadeusz Kościuszko Warsaw" Fighter Squadron, which together with the 302 Squadron distinguished itself in the Battle of Britain of 1940. He was born in the village of Olszanka, near Suwałki.
