At the end of February this year, the EU countries with the largest number of beneficiaries of temporary protection status were Germany (1.2 million people, 30.4% of the total), Poland (957,200, 22.6%), and the Czech Republic (385,000, 9.1%).

Compared to the end of January this year, the largest absolute increase in the number of beneficiaries was recorded in Germany (+16,400), Poland (+5,600), and the Czech Republic (+3,800).

The number of protection recipients fell in five EU countries: Austria (-1,400), France (-685), Estonia (-550), the Netherlands (-120), and Malta (-20).

September 28, 2023. The European Council agreed to extend temporary protection for those fleeing the war in Ukraine from March 4, 2024, to March 4, 2025. “Compared with the population of each EU country, the highest numbers of total temporary protection beneficiaries per thousand people at the end of February 2024 were observed in Czechia (35.6), Lithuania (26.5), and Poland (26.0), whereas the corresponding figure at the EU level was 9.4 per thousand people,” Eurostat wrote.
