Often nicknamed “the youngest soldier of the Anders Army,” Captain Krzysztof Flizak spoke to TVP World reporter Kazimierz Łysiak about his feelings returning to Monte Cassino.

Flizak, who later joined the American 101st Airborne, told TVP World: “Every year I come here in my U.S. uniform, which I am very proud of - but underneath it beats a Polish heart.”

He added: “I come here to salute my colleagues that are buried here - including one of my dearest friends who was barely 18-years-old [when he died].”

Flizak also spoke about his early life, revealing how Siberian exile led him to join the Anders Army as well as his remarkable wartime journey to find his father.
