The project, led by the Puck Bay Intercommunal Union, involves the construction of a 50-passenger vessel powered entirely by electric energy, with a contract signed for its design and construction by the Alumilex shipyard in Gdynia.
The tram, costing over 3 million złoty (€690,000), is supported by a 1.9 million złoty (€437 ,000) government grant, with additional funding from local municipalities.
“After years of requests from residents and tourists, we are returning to this popular route," said Union chairman Arkadiusz Gawrych. "It will offer a traffic-free connection to the open sea and encourage visits to Puck.”
The vessel will operate from early June to mid-September in its first year, with plans to extend service to May in the future. Gawrych said: “Experience from other similar projects shows this kind of seasonal transport is needed.”
The tram will make three to four daily trips, docking at existing ports with only minor infrastructure updates required.
This initiative aims to boost local tourism and provide a sustainable transport alternative across the bay, bypassing road traffic on the way to the open sea.
