Poland arrests Russian lawyer accused of organizing attack on Navalny ally A Russian lawyer who is accused of organizing an attack on an ally of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been arrested by Polish authorities.

A Russian lawyer who is accused of organizing an attack on an ally of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been arrested by Polish authorities.

The suspect, named by Polish officials only as “Anatoly B,” was detained on September 13, Poland’s national prosecutor’s office said in a statement released on Friday.

He is one of eight people being investigated following attacks across the world on members of the Russian opposition linked to the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which was founded by Navalny, the statement said.

Among the suspects are six Polish nationals and one Belarusian.

Anatoly B. has been charged with organizing a March 12 attack on Russian oppositionist Leonid Volkov in Vilnius.
The attack in the Lithuanian capital left Volkov with a broken arm and leg injuries, according to the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which reported that the original plan had been to kidnap Volkov and bring him to Russia.

Poland’s national prosecutor’s office said that Anatoly B would be held for at least three months. It added that he has been charged with three offenses including “directing the beating of Russian opposition figure Leonid V. because of his… political affiliation and political activities.”

Navalny, a critic of Putin and one of Russia’s most prominent domestic opposition figures, died in a Russian penal colony in February while serving a 19-year sentence.
