The air base, located in Russia’s southern province of Rostov, is about 300 kilometers from the current frontline.
The Ukrainian media have published satellite photos showing destroyed hangars. The base houses Su-34 fighter-bomber aircrafts. Kyiv claims it destroyed six Russian fighter bombers stationed there.
The head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, provided the details about the attack, adding that it involved over 70 drones of the Dragon and Splash types.
This marks the second significant Ukrainian attack on the Morozovsk base in the past two months.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 87 Ukrainian drones were neutralized over Russian and Crimean airspace overnight.
In retaliation, Russian forces shelled the border areas and towns in Ukraine’s Sumy region around 19 times. One person died and another seven were injured due to the shelling.
The Morozovsk base is used by Su-24, Su-24M and Su-34 fighter bombers to attack Ukraine.
