The accident occurred on a highway in Blievenstorf which connects the large metropolitan regions of Hamburg and Berlin.

According to preliminary findings, the bus swerved off the highway, hitting a guardrail and a traffic sign.

Passengers who were injured in the crash sustained mainly facial injuries from shattered glass, local police said.

Seven of them were transported to a hospital in Schwerin, but it was not immediately clear how many were in serious condition.

It was later confirmed that everyone had been discharged from the hospital after receiving emergency care and were being transported to their destinations by dedicated transport.

Overall, 59 passengers were traveling on the coach.
